Segal gets AFT endorsement
David Segal’s insurgent First Congressional District campaign has gained a noteworthy endorsement:
The Rhode Island chapter of the American Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals announced their endorsement of Rep. David Segal in Rhode Island’s 1st District Congressional race.
In announcing the endorsement, Marcia Reback said, “David Segal earned the endorsement of the RIFTHP by being a strong voice for education and working families in the RI General Assembly and we are sure that he will carry on his good works in the Congress for District 1.” . . . .
“I am honored to have the support of the dedicated professionals who are in the classroom with Rhode Island’s students every day,” said Representative Segal. “Quality public education lays the foundation for Rhode Island young people to excel throughout their lives. I am firmly committed to supporting the best possible environment for Rhode Island students to flourish.”
The Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals represents 10,000 workers across Rhode Island, including roughly 7,000 public school teachers in 11 districts. The AFT membership share an important professional goal: to provide quality services to the people of Rhode Island and believe positive long-term economic health requires a continuing reinvestment in education, health care and other important public services and is dedicated to that mission.
I am proud of David Segal for fighting his way into this endorsement. I am also surprised that the RIFTHP gave its endorsement to Segal and not Bill Lynch. It has pleasantly surprised me that the unions in our state have weighed their endorsements heavily and not handed them to Lynch who many expected to sweep the unions this election cycle.
