Costantino outspent Taveras + Lombardi combined
November 2, 2010
Here’s an intriguing chestnut for the lull before the polls close. Steven Costantino, the third-place finisher in Providence’s September mayoral primary, spent more than the combined tab of primary winner Angel Taveras and No. 2 finisher John Lombardi:
• Costantino – $787,088.57
• Taveras – $422,610
• Lombardi – $349,610.50
It just goes to show that money, for all its determinative strength in campaigns, isn’t always destiny. Particularly against someone with a strong ground game that cuts across traditional divisions.
