Kapstein makes his case

June 29, 2010

One of the questions heading into this week’s filing deadline was whether Red Sox advisor Jeremy Kapstein would follow through on plans to challenge fellow Democrat Elizabeth Roberts for lieutenant governor. Kapstein (who has a new Web site) hasn’t filed as of this moment, but his comments at last night’s Democratic convention suggest he’s in it to win it.

After outlining his humble roots in RI, his accomplishments in baseball, and his late father’s efforts as a union leader and state rep, Kapstein argued he can do a more effective job than Roberts:

There’s no better place in America [than Rhode Island] to live or to work or to raise a family. But if you have the greatest  product in America, but you don’t have a salesperson to sell it, then you fail.

For her part, Roberts touted her advocacy on small business and healthcare. And while her endorsement, as an incumbent, might have been a foregone conclusion, she says she actively worked for it.
