Violet to lead RISC Business Network

June 29, 2010

Former attorney general and talk-show host Arlene Violet (disclosure: my co-panelist on WPRI/WNAC-TV’s Newsmakers) is taking on a leadership role with the RISC Business Network’s attempt to gain legislative seats:

“I am excited to head up the RISC Business Network and I am rearing to go to help get new people- – and new policies- – into the General Assembly because the status quo up there have profoundly failed the people of this state,” says Violet. “It’s true they cut the top income tax rate but they failed to address the kind of pension reform the state really needs.” . . . .

The Network, called RBN2010, has to date reached a threshold of $100,000 in a combination of pledges, direct contributions and seed money which will be used to help pro-business candidates from any political party this election season.  Violet will head up a candidate announcement for RBN2010 planned for July 20th and will act as the central media spokesperson and event speaker for the Business Network through the 2010 campaign season. RISC Chairman Harry Staley says he was gratified that Violet, who has served on the Board of RISC for several years, has agreed to take on this central role.

“RISC is thrilled to have a champion of the people, and a challenger to the status quo like Arlene Violet to head up this critical post for RBN,” says Staley. “She is a dynamo like no other and with a seasoned background in a combination of the law, government, politics and media; we believe she will be able to galvanize our effort to put a pro-business agenda into the state Legislature.”
