Providence mayoral miscellany

August 31, 2010

A few odds and ends amid a close fight to succeed David Cicilline at City Hall:

Angel Taveras recently picked an endorsement from Clean Water Action, which claims a national membership of 1.2 million people:

Clean Water Action’s Rhode Island Director Sheila Dormody stated, “We are proud to announce our endorsement of Angel Taveras for Mayor of Providence.  Angel’s 5 point environmental program focuses on reducing Providence’s carbon footprint and positioning Providence as a leader in the rapidly growing green economy.  These measures are just what our capitol city needs to move forward.  We look forward to working with him when he is elected to help him implement his ambitious plan.”

John Lombardi yesterday released his education plan.

Christopher Young got a wave of national publicity last week, for singing a religious song during a TV interview and for launching a marriage proposal during a WPRI debate. Somewhere, Neil Postman is smiling.

— Steven Costantino released his public safety plan last week.

— WRNI will broadcast a series of short profiles of the five mayoral candidates next week during Morning Edition.
