DMV wants to cut waits to one hour

May 31, 2011

Governor Lincoln Chafee is asking the General Assembly to approve about $900,000 in new spending to hire more employees at the state Division of  Motor Vehicles.

Lisa Holley, interim DMV administrator, said the division plans to hire 15 new workers as customer service employees at Cranston headquarters.

The aim is to cut down on the frustrating waiting lines for motorists renewing licenses and registrations. Holley says the goal of the DMV is “to have no wait that is more than one hour for any transaction.’’

Holley says the DMV will hire more employees if the division is able to open new branch offices. She said she envisions a new DMV branch somewhere in the Providence metro area.
