ProJo executive editor Heslin on medical leave
ProJo newsroom staffers are both concerned and puzzled by news that executive editor Tom Heslin will remain out of work until the end of the summer. Heslin so far has offered only cryptic reasons for his departure, but said in a memo to the staff that his absence is health-related, specifically focusing on his blood pressure.
Here is his memo to the staff:
“I have been away from the office for a few weeks now, getting some good care related to my blood pressure. I am on the mend, and looking forward to my return by summer’s end.
“The experience has taught me a few lessons, especially the importance of the love and support of family and friends.
“The challenge has also reinforced my appreciation for the quality and commitment of the Journal news organization. We are part of a wonderful print and digital enterprise that is the cornerstone of Rhode Island and New England. I am honored to be part of it along with you.’’
Karen Bordeleau, Heslin’s deputy, has taken over in his absence.
`On Politics’ wishes Tom, his wife Pat and his family well and trust he makes a speedy recovery.
