ProJo’s document dump not seen as a sign of change

The sight of a huge quantity of documents being tossed in the trash outside the Providence Journal led one On Politics reader to suspect that a partial lease of the Journal’s Fountain Street HQ is in the works. It’s fair to entertain such thoughts, given how the property was put up for sale in 2008.

But a ProJo insider dismisses such thinking. Instead, the source attributes the document dump to overdue compliance with corporate parent Belo’s policy on disposing of old papers. The cleanup was originally slated for last month.

Providence Newspaper Guild president John Hill says the union hasn’t received any actual indications of a sale or lease of the Journal building, despite frequent rumors to the contrary.
