Doherty hires two former top RI GOP officials

October 3, 2011

Brendan Doherty has hired two top former state Republican officials to run his First Congressional District campaign as he moves toward a primary fight with John Loughlin:

The principals of Adams Point Advisors are Giovanni Cicione, who will serve as Campaign Manager and Spokesperson for the campaign and Robert Coupe who will serve as Political Director and Campaign Press Secretary.  Cicione and Coupe will join Media Consultants OnMessage Inc. and fundraisers Johnston Consulting, Inc. as advisors to the Doherty for Congress team.

“I am pleased to announce the addition of Adams Point Advisors to my Campaign,” stated Doherty.  “We are building a strong team of experienced campaign professionals who will assist me to communicate our messages of common sense, integrity and fiscal restraint to the voters.  The addition of Gio and Rob ensures that we will have the skills and expertise to run a winning campaign,” continued Doherty.

“I am grateful to have received the support of many talented Rhode Islanders from the earliest stages of my campaign,” continued Doherty.  “As we make the transition to a permanent campaign staff, I would particularly like to take this opportunity to thank my close friend Dante Bellini, Jr. for volunteering his time and expertise as spokesperson for the campaign.  I was fortunate to have him by my side as I started this journey, and I am happy that he will continue to play a key role on my leadership team as a valued advisor,” concluded Doherty.

Adams Point Advisors (“APA”) is a political consulting and government relations firm established by Giovanni Cicione and Robert Coupe.  APA focuses on communications and political strategy for candidates, non-profit organizations and corporate clients and works on behalf of its clients at the federal level and in statehouses across the country.  Mr. Cicione served as Chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Party and as a member of the Republican National Committee from 2007 through 2011.  He has maintained an active government relations practice for 15 years and has been active in policy and politics for close to 20 years.

Mr. Coupe has more than 20 years of experience working with state and federal campaigns in Rhode Island.  Having served as a policy advisor and spokesman for U.S. Senator John Chafee in Washington, DC, he has filled similar roles for several public officials and groups in Rhode Island and recently oversaw the day-to-day operations of the RI Republican Party as its Executive Director.
