Hyers won’t rule out returning to run Cicilline’s campaign

October 4, 2011

Eric Hyers, who piloted US Representative David Cicilline’s successful congressional run last year, says he’s “110 percent focused” on his current responsibilities as executive director of the Connecticut Democratic Party. But Hyers won’t rule out a possible return to Rhode Island next year to run Cicilline’s reelection bid.

“We’ll discuss 2012 in 2012,” Hyers says. For now, he says, he’s oriented on “winning municipal elections here in Connecticut and building and strengthening the Connecticut Democratic Party.”

Four Democrats are among those in the hunt to succeed retiring US Senator Joe Lieberman, and Connecticut’s five US House seats will also be on the line next year.

While some have predicted a tough reelection fight for Cicilline, pointing to what they call his downplaying of Providence’s fiscal woes, Hyers perceives brighter prospects for the former mayor.
