Raimondo bullish on pension bill passage in close to original form

October 14, 2011

State Treasurer Gina Raimondo says she hasn’t received assurances from House Speaker Gordon Fox or Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed about the willingness of their respective chambers to pass the pension overhaul plan being unveiled Tuesday.

But Raimondo, in an interview today, offered this assessment of the outlook:

I believe that the General Assembly wants to do the right thing, I believe that this bill is the right thing for all the people of Rhode Island, and I have every reason to believe that the General Assembly will pass the bill in substantially the form that it has been submitted.

Hey, everyone that comes up with a “plan” to fix some problem wants their plan (which they, of course, worked “really hard” on) passed into law without anyone messing with it. Unfortunately, that’s frequently not the way that things work out in a political forum, and neither should it be that way, since will don’t seem to like exclusive rule by an Executive over a Legislative Branch very much in the USA. 😉
