Pension overhaul supporters + opponents girding for battle
With the House Finance Committee set to hold the first of three public hearings tomorrow on the pension overhaul (starting at 11 am in Room 35 at the Statehouse), different interest groups are ready to make their points.
The AFL-CIO’s Council 94 just distributed word of plans for a 2:30 news conference in the rotunda:
Rhode Island’s working women, men, and retirees will gather at the State House to voice their opposition to the Governor’s & General Treasurer’s proposed pension legislation. An independent actuary will also explain how the bill will impact current employees and retirees.

Meanwhile, the pro-overhaul group Engage RI is staging a rally in the rotunda, starting at 4 pm and with speakers, possibly including state officials, at 5 pm.
