Thank you, Robert Ames!
It’s a bittersweet Friday here at Rhode Island Public Radio, since today marks the last day on the job for our esteemed afternoon anchor, Robert Ames, who’s been part of public radio in the Ocean State since the very beginning.
I think it’s safe to say our newsroom feels a mix of emotions about Bob’s departure; we wish him much happiness in his retirement, but we’re also saddened by the departure of a stalwart colleague and excellent journalist.
Bob’s voice is familiar to public radio listeners in Rhode Island — it projects authority. He’s brought an avid curiosity about the news in his work as the station’s afternoon anchor. And the Pennsylvania native has always been game for some banter about politics, basketball or baseball.
Flo Jonic offers this parting profile of our friend.
