Joseph P. Kennedy III likely to run for Congress

January 2, 2012

It is looking more and more like a run for Congress in Massachusetts by Joseph P. Kennedy III.

Kennedy, son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, is taking a serious look at running for the seat vacated by Rep. Barney Frank. Frank, 71, decided to retire rather than run again in a new district that has become more Republican.

Kennedy is the grandson of  Robert F. Kennedy.

Sources close to Kennedy tell R.I. Public Radio that the Kennedy family has been quietly lining up fund-raisers and that Kennedy will have something more to say about his plans within a week or so.

Kennedy, 31, is a Middlesex County prosecutor and graduate of  Harvard Law School. Massachusetts Democrats are impressed with Kennedy’s smarts and work ethic. In a multi-candidate primary race, Kennedy would have obvious fund-raising and name recognition advantages.

isn’t he Joseph P. Kennedy IV ? There was the patriarch, then Joe Jr. who died in WW II, then Joe the former Congressman, and now his son who may run for office..

Maybe one of them didn’t have the P. as a middle initial for Patrick who was the patriarch’s immigrant father for whom our former RI Congressman was named, and was also the name of JFK’s infant child who died shortly after being born.

Whatever, there are at least five generations of America, sort of like the Rockefellers who probably are at least six or seven generations in America. The Kennedys have definitely “arrived’ ! But the Lodges in Mass. and Roosevelts in NY have more generations. .

Yeah, this is IV, not III. I’m seeing this error on quite a few websites, actually.
