Newport Grand CEO speaks; cites commitment to protect state revenue
In a just issued statement, Newport Grand CEO Diane Hurley has offered her first recent public comments on the looming casino threat from Massachusetts:
Newport Grand continues to examine options in light of approval of a casino in the Fall River area. The reality of a casino in Fall River is very concerning to us. It is an immediate threat to the 187 jobs and $31.5 million in gaming tax revenues generated by Newport Grand.
After we complete our internal analysis, Newport Grand will communicate with city officials, legislative members, and the governor as to a proposed course of action. Our committed goal, as a family-run, local business established in 1976, is to protect the hundreds of jobs of local residents and the millions of dollars in local and state tax Newport Grand pays annually.
