Doherty heads south for campaign cash
Republican First District congressional aspirant Brendan Doherty is headed to Florida in his latest attempt to harvest money for his campaign for the seat held by Democratic U.S. Rep. David Cicilline. An event hosted by some prominent Rhode Islanders – including former Gov. Donald Carcieri and former First Lady Sue Carcieri and Dave and Heidi Kirk Duffy – is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 15 in Palm Beach. Suggested contribution $500, according to the invitation.
“If you will be in the Palm Beach area next week, please join me at this special event,’’ Doherty says in a message on the invitation.
With 2010 GOP Cicilline challenger John Loughlin dropping out of the Republican primary, former state police Supt. Doherty has a glide path to the nomination, unless another Republican jumps into the race.
