In new email, Hyers sets tone for piloting Cicilline to re-election
One of the worst-kept secrets in Rhode Island politics was that Eric Hyers, who managed David Cicilline’s winning campaign when he vaulted into Congress in 2010, would soon be back on board. Hyers makes his return official today with an email telegraphing some of the talking points set for use against Brendan Doherty and Anthony Gemma:
Let me tell you something you already know. David’s upcoming reelection campaign is going to be one of the hardest-fought congressional campaigns in the entire country. National Republicans are targeting this seat and have already begun pummeling David with false attacks. They have even promoted David’s opponent, an anti-choice, pro-corporate tax cut, pro-Romney Republican as one of their top recruits. Combine that with a wealthy so-called Democrat who is hell-bent on destroying David, and we’ve got our work cut out for us.
Make no mistake. This is not going to be easy. But up against all the distortions, noise and money, will be you, me, and one of the hardest-working representatives in the entire country.
David Cicilline has been working tirelessly to get things done for Rhode Island for the past several years. While Mayor of Providence he brought the crime rate down to its lowest level in 30 years, brought billions of new investment to the city, and created one of the finest after-school programs in the country. In his first year as a freshman congressman, David has continued to deliver. His Make It In America legislation was included in the national Democrats’ jobs agenda. He sought and secured a seat on the Small Business committee so that he could fight for RI small businesses. He helped deliver 28 million dollars to Rhode Island for high speed rail, and his district office has already helped almost 800 Rhode Islanders with constituent service needs like tracking down Social Security checks and navigating the VA.
David Cicilline is working hard for us. And it is time for us to work hard for him.
I managed David’s campaign for Congress in 2010 and I am so excited to tell you first that I am returning to Rhode Island to manage his reelection. There is no one I’d rather work for than David Cicilline, and no team I’d rather work with than all of you. Together in 2010, we ran one of the best grassroots campaigns Rhode Island has ever seen, and you demonstrated again and again that David has the strongest and most dedicated volunteer army in the state.
We need you again. Can David count on you? Sign up to volunteer today and let me know you are ready to join us.
It is going to be a hard-fought contest, but with you on our team, I know we will send David back to Congress.
