Legal + business heavyweights hosting March 27 fundraiser for Taveras

March 5, 2012

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras’ campaign war chest is poised to get a boost from some prominent names in the state’s legal and business community as he continues grappling with the city’s fiscal crisis. The five-person host committee for a March 27 fundraiser at the East Side home of Marc Crisafulli includes a heavy concentration of people associated with Hinckley, Allen & Snyder, the law firm offering advice to Taveras’ administration for just under $400 an hour:

— Crisafull, the managing partner of Hinckley, Allen & Snyder. He’s a former exec at GTECH.

— Super-lobbyist and lawyer Robert Goldberg, who is married to Supreme Court Justice Maureen McKenna Goldberg.

— Malcolm Farmer III, a partner at Hinckley, Allen + Snyder, who is married to former secretary of state Susan Farmer. Malcolm Farmer, like Taveras, is on the host committee for an upcoming David Cicilline fundraiser.

— Scott Gunn, the senior VP of global government relations and US business development for GTECH.

— Patrick Rogers, the former chief of staff for Governor Chafee who left that job a few months back for a post with Hinckley, Allen & Snyder.

Suggested donation levels for the fundraiser are $250, $500, and $1000.

Taveras was the most successful fundraiser last year among local- and state-based pols in Rhode Island, and he had the best statewide approval rating in a recent Brown University survey.
