As part of wider move, Patch consolidates four local sites into two

AOL-owned Patch this week consolidated its sites for Narragansett and South Kingstown, as well as the ones for Attleboro and Seekonk.

AdAge Digital calls this part of a wider move:

At one time, AOL had hoped to reach 1,000 Patch sites by the end of 2011. But now comes word that Patch is slightly scaling back its efforts in some markets, fueling speculation inside the hyper-local news organization that Tim Armstrong’s big local bet was a bit too ambitious.

The development comes amid an out-of-town report that some Patch sales people are losing their jobs (the New York Observer has more on the back-and-forth).

At least on the surface, the local consolidation marks a step back from the big expansion Patch pursued in the Ocean State in 2010.
