Almonte for governor as a Democrat in 2014?
Former state auditor Ernest Almonte offered skeptical testimony during legislative hearings last year about the pension overhaul eventually passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Chafee.
In particular, he said the overall wasn’t a cure-all for Rhode Island’s pension woes — a situation borne out by the uncertain outlook this year for addressing locally managed pensions.
Almonte tells the ProJo he’s “seriously considering” running for governor as a Democrat in 2014. So if state Treasurer Gina Raimondo also runs for the higher office, that could make for a lively primary.
