RI Presidential Primary Deadline
Rhode Island’s April 24 presidential primary will be the first state election where voters will be required to show voter identification. This Saturday (March 24) is the last day to register to vote to be eligible to participate in the presidential primary.
Secretary of State Ralph Mollis will open his office at 148 West River Street in Providence between 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to accommodate last-minute registrants. State law requires voters to be registered at least 30 days before an election.
Under the new law, voters will be asked by poll workers to show photo i.d. Mail ballots will not require the identification.
On the Democratic side, President Barack Obama is the lone presidential candidate. Republicans will choose from Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Buddy Roemer , Ron Paul and Rick Santorum. In addition, about 120 Republicans and Democrats will be running for delegate slots at the Democratic and Republican national conventions.
