Block Island Times breaks DMV credit card story
The Block Island Times and the newspaper’s fab editor (and old friend) Pippa Jack have broken a story that will make many Rhode Islanders happy: The Division of Motor Vehicles is about to take credit cards at all its branches.
Governor Lincoln Chafee, who has made a priority of fixing the DMV, long one of Rhode Island’s most loathed government agencies, is slated to announce the new policy soon, reports the Block Island weekly.
DMV employees started training last month and are scheduled to begin processing credit cards next week. Under a longstanding policy, the DMV has taken only cash or checks.
Chafee deserves credit for changing the leadership at the DMV and focusing the division on updating its services and making the agency much more consumer-friendly.
While Jack did a great job beating the rest of the Rhode Island media on this story, she won’t be breaking any more for a while. She is scheduled to soon begin a maternity leave.
