Chafee mutes criticism of foreign policy during DoD outing to Afghanistan
Governor Lincoln Chafee has made clear his dislike for “foreign entanglements” and he was the only Senate Republican to vote against the war in Iraq. Yet as a guest on a Defense Department trip to Afghanistan, Chafee is steering clear of any such critiques.
During an afternoon conference call with reporters, Chafee described landing in Kuwait Tuesday. Traveling with the governors of Michigan and South Dakotoa, he arrived in Afghanistan today, visting a hospital and RI soliders at a forward operating base.
I’m really not here to cast judgment on what we’re doing and how we’re doing. It’s more just to hear from the troops that are here and let them know as captain-general of the National Guard, I care about how they’re doing and just see exactly what they’re doing both in Kuwait and here in Afghanistan.
Chafee is expected back in Rhode Island on Friday.
