RI convention delegates to stay outside convention city limits
Democratic delegates attending the Democratic National Convention this summer in Charlotte, N.C. look like they have been assigned a nice resort-style hotel outside city limits, but it might be a bit of a commute to the convention site.
The delegates are slated to stay at the Embassy Suites in Concord, N.C., which is 20 miles from the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, according to the hotel web site. But the drive from the hotel to the downtown arena hosting the convention is about a 45 minute drive at rush hour, said a woman taking reservations this afternoon.
The good news is that the hotel features an 18-hole golf course, a well-appointed spa and an in-hotel fitness center, a walking and cycling track and the obligatory swimming pool. And the suites come with irons, ironing boards and hair dryers and two high-def televisions, a microwave and refrigerator. And, of course, a wet bar, the feature that generally gets a good workout at political conventions.
The hotel also has made-to-order breakfasts and a full-service restaurant. Ted Nesi reports at WRPI.com that RI Republicans will be lodged nearly 27 miles from the convention location at the RNC in Tampa, Fla.
