Kimzey set to formally launch state rep bid; Lombardi close to public decision
One of the most interesting legislative races for 2012 — the District 8 seat held by state Representative Michael Tarro (D-Providence) — is about to come into sharper focus.
Speaker Gordon Fox is backing Tarro for re-election. Liberal challenger Libby Kimzey is set to formally launch her campaign tomorrow. And longtime former Providence councilor John Lombardi, who placed second in the 2010 Providence mayoral race, tells me he plans to make his intentions known within a few days.
Kimzey managed state Representative Teresa Tanzi’s upset win over David Caprio in the September 2010 primary.
Her kickoff event/fundraiser is set for Tuesday, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Phoenix Dragon restaurant, 256 Broadway. Kimzey’s host committee includes Lauren Nocera, who managed Angel Taveras’ 2010 campaign, labor stalwarts Pat Crowley, Stan Israel, Scott Duhamel, and the expected array of progressive activists.
Kimzey… another rich, self-serving progressive out to push herself forward in a community she shamelessly self-promotes herself. What a sickening sight it is to see this woman pander to the people who live in Olneyville and Federal Hill. As a resident, I will work hard to make certain she never gets to spend more than a few hours helping to destroy this state (further) with her socialist ideas.
Given the fact that both Tarro and Lombardi are the ultimate insiders, their “service” to the state would more or less continue the “old boy network” that is the GA. Between the three, I’ll take Ms. Kimzey over either of those who’ll simply continue business as usual – meaning the continued destruction of this state by parochialism, petty self-service and small-minded prejudice.
