Jon Brien set for a statewide run in 2014?

September 19, 2012

State Representative Jon Brien, the outspoken conservative Woonsocket Democrat who suffered a surprise loss in last week’s primary, has previously told me of his desire to one day run for higher office. So in the aftermath of the primary, is the future now? (Update: another possibility being floated is a write-in campaign for the General Assembly.)

Brien will answwer that question with a 10 am news conference tomorrow:

After losing a closely contested primary election, marred by administrative errors which sent voters to the wrong polling places, State Representative Jon Brien will hold a press conference Thursday morning addressing those concerns and announcing his plans for the future.

The press conference will take place:

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Pepin Lumber

830 Cumberland Hill Road

Woonsocket, RI

It’s not clear which office Brien might potentially shoot for, although I’d keep an eye on the lieutenant governor’s office. Elizabeth Roberts can’t seek re-election due to term limits, and there’s a posse of Democrats looking at secretary of state.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Ralph Mollis is termed out, and he’s also considered a potential LG candidate by some in the chattering class.

One other footnote: veteran political PR communicator Peter Kerwin, ex of the RI Higher Education Assistance Authority, is helping Brien with his press for tomorrow’s event.

Nope, I bet he got wind of how Charlie Baldelli bad-mouthed him during the election season and is going to announce for mayor to piss off Lisa.
