Did you know the RI House has a Pinterest page?

November 28, 2012

Tweeters might remain few to non-existent among the 113 state legislators in Rhode Island, but Smith Hill is increasing its use of social media.

The House of Representatives, for example, has its own Pinterest page — highlighted by a picture of Representative Joseph McNamara standing in front of an Irish and Italian flag.

The House Twitter account, run by communications assistant Shawn Andrews, has ramped up its activity of late. One highlight is a question of the day, such as, “What do you think the House should do, this session, to fix the car tax issue?”

The House Facebook page, created last year, now has more than 1000 “likes,” and individual lawmakers will be encouraged to create their own FB pages in the new session, says House spokesman Larry Berman.

House Speaker Gordon Fox emerged as a Twitter user during his re-election campaign, and “he would definitely like to continue that.” Berman says.

The state Senate was out front in establishing its own Twitter account, and it also has a Facebook page.
