Primary voter registration deadline Saturday

If you want you want to vote in the Sept. 14 Democratic and Republican primaries, and you are not registered, you have until Saturday to register.
Registering as a Republican or Democrat allows you only to vote in the primary of thae party you signed up with. Registering as an independent, or in Rhode Island argot, an unaffiliated voter, allows you to choose which primary you can vote in.
Some city and town canvassing boards have extra Saturday hours to accomodate last-minute registrants. Secretary of State Ralph Mollis will open his office from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. to handle the eleventh-hour registrations. The secretary of state’s office is at 148 West River Street in Providence.
An eligible voter is a U.S. citizen who has lived in Rhode Island for at least 30 days before the Sept. 14th primary and are at least 18 years of age.
